In a dramatic turn of events, John Bolton unleashed criticism against President Trump following a grand jury’s issuance of an alarming 18-count indictment.
The former National Security Advisor has been indicted by a Maryland grand jury, a development that could reshape political dynamics.
- Counts 1–8: Transmission of National Defense Information
- Counts 9–18: Retention of National Defense Information

Assigned to Judge Theodore Chuang—an Obama appointee—Bolton’s case now sits at the crossroads of legality and political theater.
Should he be convicted, the 76-year-old Bolton faces an extraordinary sentence of up to 180 years in prison.
Charged under the Espionage Act, Bolton reportedly communicated classified information over a private server that was intercepted by Iranian officials. The indictment elaborates that Bolton shared these classified documents with two unnamed relatives, a revelation that previously leaked to The New York Post identifies as his wife and daughter.
With characteristic bravado, Bolton directed his ire at Trump, claiming he is merely the latest victim of a Justice Department being used as a weapon.
“When my e-mail was hacked in 2021, the FBI was fully informed, and yet during four years of the previous administration, no charges were filed,” Bolton defended his contentious choice to transmit classified material via a private server.
“These charges reflect not just a focus on me, but a calculated effort to intimidate opponents and control the narrative surrounding his actions,” Bolton asserted.
In an eyebrow-raising analogy, Bolton suggested that Trump embodies the ethos of Joseph Stalin’s head of secret police: “You show me the man, and I’ll show you the crime.” He underscored that dissent and disagreement are integral to the constitutional fabric of America, vital for maintaining freedom.
Looking ahead, Bolton expressed confidence in articulating his “lawful” actions and unearthing Trump’s alleged “abuse of power.”

FBI Director Kash Patel shared insights from the investigation, stating, “The evidence indicates that John Bolton allegedly transmitted top-secret information through personal accounts and kept those documents in his residence, blatantly violating federal laws.”
Patel stressed the integrity of the investigation, asserting that “the meticulous work of dedicated FBI professionals was unfettered by biases. We will not tolerate the politicization of justice; protecting national security is our hallmark.”
U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes reinforced this sentiment, asserting that the primary goal of the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office is to safeguard Americans. “Anyone jeopardizing national security will be held accountable,” she affirmed.
Bolton is slated to surrender at a federal courthouse in Greenbelt, Maryland, tomorrow morning.
