Bombshell Report Says OnePlus Is Being “Dismantled”

OnePlus, a renowned smartphone manufacturer, is currently facing a challenging situation as reports suggest that its parent company, Oppo, is considering discontinuing the brand. This decision comes in the wake of a significant 20% decline in global shipments in 2024, as reported by Tech Advisor.

Despite releasing popular devices such as the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 3, OnePlus has experienced substantial market share losses, particularly in key markets like India. In India alone, the brand witnessed a staggering 32.6% decrease in market share, leading to the closure of around 4,500 stores. This decline has had a detrimental impact on OnePlus’ operations in Europe and North America, leaving the company heavily reliant on India and China for 74% of its shipments.

The situation in China is equally concerning, with OnePlus failing to meet the ambitious target set by its president to surpass Xiaomi’s market share. Instead of achieving a 50% growth, OnePlus experienced a 20% decline in market share in China. Android Headlines, in its investigative report, highlights the alarming dependence of OnePlus on India and China, while operations in other regions have suffered significant setbacks.

If the speculations about OnePlus’ potential discontinuation are accurate, it would mark a disappointing end for a brand that has made significant contributions to the tech industry. Since its inception with the OnePlus One in 2014, OnePlus has been known for its innovative approach to smartphone design and features. The brand successfully transitioned from offering flagship killer devices to premium flagship smartphones, appealing to a wide range of consumers.

The OnePlus 15, the latest flagship offering from the brand, has received acclaim for its impressive features and performance. Additionally, OnePlus has expanded its product lineup to include other devices such as the OnePlus Pad 3, a popular mid-range tablet, and the OnePlus Watch 2R and Watch 3, which compete with other smartwatches in the market.

Despite these achievements, the reported decline in sales and market share paints a grim picture for OnePlus. With Oppo reportedly considering winding down the brand, OnePlus may be facing an uncertain future. The potential discontinuation of OnePlus would mark the end of an era for a brand that has left a lasting impact on the smartphone industry.
