Ernie Hudson has officially joined the cast of CBS’ upcoming spinoff of “Blue Bloods,” titled “Boston Blue,” as a series regular. The show will star Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role as detective Danny Reagan from “Blue Bloods,” who relocates to Boston and teams up with detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.
In “Boston Blue,” Hudson will portray Reverend Peters, the patriarch of the Silver family. Reverend Peters is described as a well-respected pastor of a historic Baptist church in Boston. He is known for his open-mindedness and welcoming nature, comfortable in all traditions. Reverend Peters is not only the father of Mae Silver, Boston’s district attorney, but also the grandfather of detective Lena Silver, superintendent Ashley Silver, and rookie patrol cop, Isaac Silver.
The series is being produced by CBS Studios in association with JBTV, with Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis serving as showrunners. Executive producers include Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Donnie Wahlberg. Paramount Global Content Distribution will handle distribution of the show.
During a recent CBS press briefing in Los Angeles, Sonequa Martin-Green expressed her excitement for the Silver family, stating, “We have all loved the Reagans for so long, and I feel that we’ll love the Silvers too.” Donnie Wahlberg also shared his thoughts on the expansion of the law enforcement family narrative, saying, “There are so many law enforcement families in this country. There’s not just the Reagans. They’re in every state, every city, every town, everywhere, and there are other families around that have stories to tell too. Danny’s story will continue the Reagan family. You can’t have Danny without Reagans — there’ll be connective tissue. But we’re also going to get to discover a new family and carry on the tradition of telling their stories.”
With Ernie Hudson’s addition to the cast and the promise of a new family dynamic, “Boston Blue” is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the “Blue Bloods” universe. Fans can look forward to seeing how the Silver family navigates the challenges of law enforcement in Boston while honoring their own unique traditions and values.
