Boy, 1, Suffocated by Bedding As Mom Ignored Him for 7 Hours

A tragic incident unfolded in Indiana when a mother was accused of leaving her 1-year-old son, Isais Pascual-Hernandez, in an unsafe sleeping environment for seven hours, leading to his suffocation and death. The Evansville Police Department responded to a call about a medical emergency at an apartment on November 14, 2025. When they arrived, they found the child unresponsive on the floor. Despite efforts to revive him, the boy could not be saved.

The mother, identified as Amirah Eziah Moodie, reported that she was unable to wake her son and that he appeared stiff. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the apartment was in a state of disarray, with food, trash, and cat feces scattered around. Isais’ bedroom had a Pack ‘n Play crib with an oversized mattress that posed a suffocation hazard.

Moodie explained to authorities that she had put Isais down for a nap at 6 p.m. the previous evening, and he slept until 6 a.m. the next day. She mentioned that she had taken a THC gummy due to financial stress and had slept in her room for several hours while her son was napping. The boy’s father arrived home from work at 2 p.m. and also fell asleep, unaware that the child was still sleeping.

It was only when Moodie checked on Isais between 3 and 4 p.m. that she discovered him motionless and wrapped in a black sheet. She struggled to unwrap the sheet from around his head, revealing marks on his neck and blue lips. An autopsy later revealed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to suffocation by bedding, with a possible contribution from ligature strangulation.

Moodie was taken into custody and is currently held in the Vanderburgh County Jail without bond. She appeared in court on March 9 and is scheduled to return on March 26. The legal proceedings are ongoing, and it remains unclear if she has entered a plea or obtained legal representation. The Evansville Police Department has not provided further comments on the case.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of providing a safe sleeping environment for infants and being vigilant about potential hazards that could lead to tragedy. Our thoughts go out to Isais Pascual-Hernandez and all those affected by this devastating loss. The world of technology is constantly evolving, with new advancements and innovations emerging every day. One such innovation that has been making waves in recent years is artificial intelligence (AI). AI is a branch of computer science that aims to create intelligent machines that can think, learn, and problem solve like humans.

One of the key areas where AI is being applied is in the field of healthcare. AI has the potential to revolutionize the way medical professionals diagnose and treat patients, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes and improved quality of care.

One of the main ways AI is being used in healthcare is through medical imaging. AI-powered algorithms can analyze medical images such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans with incredible accuracy and speed. This can help radiologists detect diseases and abnormalities in their early stages, leading to earlier intervention and treatment.

In addition to medical imaging, AI is also being used to personalize treatment plans for patients. By analyzing a patient’s medical history, genetic makeup, and other relevant data, AI can help doctors determine the most effective and personalized treatment for each individual. This can lead to better outcomes and reduced side effects for patients.

AI is also being used to improve patient outcomes through predictive analytics. By analyzing large amounts of data, AI can identify patterns and trends that may indicate a patient is at risk of developing a certain condition. This allows healthcare providers to intervene early and prevent the progression of the disease.

Overall, AI has the potential to revolutionize the healthcare industry by improving diagnosis accuracy, personalized treatment plans, and patient outcomes. While there are still challenges to overcome, such as data privacy and regulatory issues, the future looks bright for AI in healthcare. As technology continues to advance, we can expect to see even more exciting applications of AI in the field of healthcare in the years to come.
