Enter the ethereal world of Europa in New York City, where Brandon Morris’s solo exhibition, “Actress,” showcases a mesmerizing collection of translucent works that exude an otherworldly presence. The gallery is filled with pale green gowns, reminiscent of Victorian-era children’s dresses, that seem to be animated by an unseen force. Each garment, crafted from fiberglass and stiffened with resin, stands upright with an eerie grace, creating a haunting yet captivating atmosphere within the space.

Morris, a San Diego native now based in New York, brings his background in dressmaking to this unique body of work. Using industrial sewing machines and mannequins as his tools, he meticulously sews each garment to replicate the intricate details of vintage gowns. The result is a series of ghostly dresses that appear to be frozen in time, evoking a sense of mystery and intrigue.

The hollow forms of the dresses serve as vessels for our fears and anxieties, inviting viewers to contemplate the unseen forces at play. Drawing inspiration from the supernatural genre, Morris’s creations bear a resemblance to the unsettling presence of ghostly figures in horror films like “The Ring.” Their contorted poses and twisted shapes convey a sense of unease, prompting questions about the origins and intentions of the garments.

As visitors navigate through the gallery, they are confronted with a sense of disquietude as the dresses loom eerily in their midst. The exhibition challenges viewers to confront their own fears and uncertainties, inviting them to ponder the hidden forces that lurk beneath the surface of reality. In a world filled with uncertainties, Morris’s works serve as a reminder of the enigmatic nature of existence and the mysteries that lie beyond our comprehension.
