In a dramatic turn of events late Sunday night and extending into Monday morning, President Trump urged for the deployment of troops to quell the escalating violence in downtown Los Angeles.
Masked rioters have been wreaking havoc, setting vehicles ablaze and hurling commercial-grade explosives at law enforcement officers, prompting the LAPD to declare the situation an unlawful assembly on Sunday evening.

Earlier that evening, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell acknowledged the untenable situation, admitting that the riots have spiraled out of control and that his officers are significantly outnumbered. This comes after the LAPDâs insistence that the protests were merely âpeaceful.â

In light of the escalating violence, Chief McDonnell expressed his newfound support for collaborating with the National Guard. âWe had individuals shooting commercial-grade fireworks at our officers. That can kill you,â he warned.
