British detective drama “Bergerac” is making its way to American audiences through a deal between PBS Distribution and Banijay Rights. The announcement comes just before the London TV Screenings, where PBS secured the rights to the first two seasons of the show, set to debut later this year.

The series is set in Jersey and follows detective Jim Bergerac, portrayed by Damien Molony. A modern reimagining of the original series created by Robert Banks Stewart, the new “Bergerac” features a character-led murder mystery that spans all six episodes, a departure from the episodic format of the original. Produced by BlackLight TV, Westward Studios, and supported by Visit Jersey, the show has garnered attention for its stylish and captivating storytelling.

The reboot has been a hit in the UK, with the first season attracting 2.4 million viewers on U and U&DRAMA, becoming the highest-rated show on the UKTV network in 2025. A second season is on the horizon for early release this year.

Matt Creasey, vice-president of sales, co-productions, and acquisitions at Banijay Rights, expressed excitement about the deal, stating, “‘Bergerac’ is destined to be a huge draw for U.S. audiences with its stylish and enthralling detective drama.” The series, featuring Jim Bergerac’s iconic Triumph Roadster car against the backdrop of Jersey, continues to gain worldwide attention.

The writing team for “Bergerac” includes Toby Whithouse, Brian Fillis, Catherine Tregenna, Polly Buckle, Emilie Robson, Ashley Sanders, and Faebian Averies. The stellar cast includes Zoë Wanamaker, Philip Glenister, Chloé Sweet Love, Robert Gilbert, Lesley Sharp, and Adrian Edmondson, among others.

Germaine Sweet, head of content acquisition and sales at PBS Distribution, praised the show’s smart reimagining, confident that it will captivate American audiences. Executive producers Ben Bickerton and Philip Trethowan from BlackLight TV expressed their excitement for “Bergerac” finding a new audience in the U.S., highlighting the gripping stories, talented cast, and picturesque locations that will surely hook viewers.

The agreement with PBS adds to the list of international sales to broadcasters in Japan, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Poland, New Zealand, and Australia. As “Bergerac” makes its way across the globe, the buzz surrounding the series continues to grow, promising an exciting journey for fans of detective dramas.
