A Bronx man was sentenced to 24 years in prison for brutally stabbing his estranged wife, Officer Arianna Reyes-Gomez, to death in June 2022. Argenis Baez, 37, claimed in court that her police partner was the one who told him to kill her, but the judge did not buy his twisted excuse. The tragic incident took place during a domestic dispute in Reyes-Gomez’s Bronx apartment, leaving her family and colleagues devastated.

During the sentencing, Reyes-Gomez’s family made it clear that they do not forgive Baez for his heinous actions. They addressed him directly in court, expressing their pain and loss. The courtroom was filled with purple, a symbol of domestic violence awareness, as a reminder of the importance of speaking out against such crimes.

Despite the lengthy prison sentence, some feel that 24 years is not enough for the pain and suffering caused by Baez’s actions. A fellow officer who knew Reyes-Gomez described her as a dedicated cop, a compassionate person, and a loving mother. Her untimely death left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.

During the sentencing, Baez begged for forgiveness from Reyes-Gomez’s family, claiming that he was going through a difficult time. He appeared to shift blame and downplay the severity of his crime, but the judge remained steadfast in delivering justice for the victim.

Prosecutors revealed that Baez forced his way into Reyes-Gomez’s apartment and stabbed her multiple times during a heated argument. Despite her desperate pleas for her life, he callously took it away, leaving behind a trail of blood that led authorities to her lifeless body.

Reyes-Gomez, who was described as an “angel on this earth,” had only been with the NYPD for a few years and had a young son with her killer. Her final words during the altercation were a heartbreaking plea for her son’s safety, a testament to her love and dedication as a mother.

After the murder, Baez confessed to a relative, who immediately contacted the authorities. He was arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter, ultimately leading to his 24-year prison sentence. The Bronx District Attorney expressed hope that the sentence would bring some closure to Reyes-Gomez’s family and serve as a reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence.

In the end, Officer Arianna Reyes-Gomez’s life was cut short by a senseless act of violence, but her memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May her legacy serve as a reminder of the importance of speaking out against domestic violence and seeking justice for its victims.
