A 59-year-old woman in Brooklyn was reportedly raped by a neighbor who forcefully broke down her apartment door and assaulted her on Friday night, according to police and sources.
The attacker allegedly entered the home in Bensonhurst on 15th Avenue and 71st Street around 8:30 p.m., demanding sex and then proceeding to brutally hit and choke the woman while committing the assault, as per law enforcement sources.
The victim, visibly shaken, informed police of the attack at 11:15 p.m., stating that she had been sexually assaulted by someone she knew, according to authorities.
She was transported to Lutheran Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, according to police and sources.
Authorities have detained a person of interest, but no arrests have been made so far.
Sources indicate that a 38-year-old neighbor residing in the same building is being questioned by police.
On Saturday, police were seen at the crime scene, with photographs showing NYPD crime scene investigators, detectives, and the Special Victims Squad leaving the residence with multiple evidence bags.
The investigation remains active.
