Investigators are exploring a potential link between the tragic campus mass shooting at Brown University and the subsequent killing of an MIT professor at his home, according to sources familiar with the investigation. Federal, state, and local authorities are now delving into whether the fields of physics and engineering played a role in connecting the two cases. As of now, no suspects have been identified or apprehended in either incident.
This development marks a significant shift in the investigation, especially considering that FBI Boston Special Agent in Charge, Ted Docks, previously indicated that there was no apparent connection between the two shootings.
The violence erupted on Saturday, December 13, when a gunman went on a rampage at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The shooting took place at the Barus and Holley building, which houses the School of Engineering and the Physics Department. Tragically, two students lost their lives, and nine others sustained injuries in the attack. Providence Police have released enhanced video footage of a person of interest believed to be connected to the campus shooting.
Just two days later, on Monday, December 15, MIT professor Nuno F. Gomes Loureiro was fatally shot at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts, shortly before 8:30 PM. Loureiro was a renowned figure in the Nuclear Science and Engineering Department at MIT. The town of Brookline is located approximately 50 miles north of Providence, where the Brown University shooting occurred.
Both investigations into these devastating incidents are ongoing, and there is now speculation that they may be intertwined in a joint effort to uncover the truth. The authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice and closure for the victims and their families.
As more details emerge and the investigations progress, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that may assist law enforcement in solving these heinous crimes.
