The suspect in the tragic Brown University shooting that claimed the lives of two students and injured nine others has finally been identified after a six-day manhunt, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

The perpetrator, whose name has not been disclosed by authorities, managed to evade capture for almost a week after carrying out the shooting inside a classroom and fleeing into the streets of Providence, Rhode Island, last Saturday.

Despite the release of multiple blurry surveillance images of the potential suspect, law enforcement struggled to obtain a clear picture of the gunman’s identity, leading to a prolonged and challenging search.

Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez acknowledged the difficulties in apprehending the masked suspect, stating, “He could be anywhere. We still don’t know who the person is or where he is.”

The lack of security cameras in the specific area of the Barus & Holley building where the shooting occurred further complicated the investigation, as the university’s extensive network of over 1,200 cameras did not cover that location.

As the search for the suspect continued, campus security and local law enforcement faced mounting criticism for their inability to make progress in the case, prompting questions about the adequacy of their response to the tragedy.

The devastating attack resulted in the loss of two young lives – Ella Cook, a 19-year-old sophomore from Alabama, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an 18-year-old Uzbek American freshman. The Brown University community mourned the loss of these promising students and came together to support their families during this difficult time.

Despite the challenges and setbacks in the investigation, authorities remain committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice and ensuring that the Brown University campus is a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty, and staff. The community’s resilience and unity in the face of tragedy serve as a testament to the strength and solidarity of the Brown University family.
