A historic property has been given a new lease on life.

The old Outram Primary School infant building, located within the premises of the Taieri Historical Society’s museum and park near Outram Glen, has undergone a transformation.

According to Taieri Historical Society committee member Peter Thomson, the schoolhouse was in dire need of attention, with decaying wood cladding and peeling paint.

The recent upgrades included replacing the cladding, repairing the roof, and installing new guttering.

The exterior now boasts a fresh coat of vintage white paint, in line with its historical significance.

Funding for these renovations came from various sources, such as grants from the Dunedin City Council Heritage Fund, contributions from the Bathgate family, proceeds from an Outram Primary School reunion, and a generous bequest from the late Albie Kerr, a former society member who passed away approximately four years ago.

Mr Thomson emphasized that these refurbishments, aimed at a building that dates back to the 1800s, are crucial for preserving its heritage for future generations.
