I can’t force my way in. I can’t help him.”
Barber, who has been tirelessly trying to help Aldrin, revealed he’s contacted the Department of Aging and Adult Services in Los Angeles, as well as the Los Angeles Police Department, to report the dire situation.
He’s also reached out to the astronaut’s lawyer, who reportedly couldn’t intervene without Aldrin’s permission.
“He’s just dying by himself,” Barber lamented. “He doesn’t deserve to die like this.”
The former astronaut, who made history as the second person to ever step foot on the moon in 1969, has not publicly commented on his current living conditions or the concerns raised by Barber.
As the world watches and waits, hoping for a positive resolution for Buzz Aldrin, the heartbreaking reality of his situation serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability and loneliness that can accompany old age, regardless of one’s past achievements or fame.
Buzz Aldrin, the legendary astronaut and second man to walk on the moon, is currently facing a challenging time in his life. Following the tragic death of his wife, Anca Faur, in October, Buzz has been struggling both physically and mentally. According to his friend Steve Barber, Buzz is “screwed up” and “dying of a broken heart.”
Barber, who has known Buzz for over 30 years, expressed his concern for his friend’s well-being. Despite being a multimillionaire with the means to provide Buzz with the best care possible, Barber is limited in what he can do as he does not have power of attorney over Buzz. He shared, “I can’t go in there and pick him up. I’ve got a guy down in San Diego who would send a limo and we would get him in a nice place today, but what can we do? We’re not family.”
Buzz’s health has been deteriorating rapidly, especially since his wife’s passing. He has been struggling with his cognitive abilities and physical mobility. Barber described how Buzz sleeps until late in the afternoon, needs assistance with walking, and is overall not in a functional state. Despite this, Buzz still longs for his late wife and expresses how much he misses her.
In addition to dealing with his own health issues, Buzz has also been reportedly “abandoned” by his children. Barber revealed that Buzz’s children have not been actively involved in his care and have shown little interest in helping their father. Despite Barber’s attempts to reach out to Buzz’s sons and urge them to step in and care for their father, there has been minimal response.
The situation surrounding Buzz Aldrin’s well-being is concerning, and his friends and loved ones are worried about his current state. As Buzz continues to struggle with the loss of his wife and declining health, it is essential for those close to him to come together and provide the support and care he needs during this challenging time. The world is constantly changing, and with it, so too are the ways in which we interact with each other and the environment around us. In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the impact that our actions have on the planet and a push towards more sustainable living. One of the key areas where this shift towards sustainability is taking place is in the way we travel.
The traditional model of travel, which often involves flying long distances and staying in large, energy-intensive hotels, is increasingly being seen as unsustainable. The carbon emissions from air travel alone are a major contributor to climate change, and the environmental impact of the hotel industry is also significant. As a result, there has been a growing interest in finding more eco-friendly alternatives to traditional travel.
One of the most popular trends in sustainable travel is the rise of ecotourism. Ecotourism is a form of travel that focuses on visiting natural areas and engaging in activities that promote conservation and sustainability. This can include activities such as hiking, bird watching, and wildlife spotting, as well as staying in eco-friendly accommodations and supporting local conservation efforts.
Another trend in sustainable travel is the rise of slow travel. Slow travel is all about taking the time to truly experience a place, rather than rushing from one tourist attraction to the next. This can involve traveling by train or bus instead of flying, staying in smaller, locally-owned accommodations, and immersing oneself in the local culture and community. By taking a slower, more mindful approach to travel, we can reduce our carbon footprint and support local economies in a more sustainable way.
In addition to ecotourism and slow travel, there are many other ways to make our travels more sustainable. This can include choosing to travel by bike or on foot whenever possible, supporting sustainable tourism initiatives, and being mindful of our use of resources while traveling. By making small changes to the way we travel, we can all play a part in creating a more sustainable future for our planet.
Ultimately, sustainable travel is about more than just reducing our carbon footprint. It’s about being mindful of the impact that our actions have on the environment and the communities that we visit, and making choices that support a more sustainable way of living. By embracing sustainable travel practices, we can all do our part to protect the planet for future generations.
