Prince Philip Death Mystery Erupts Over Cancer Claim

RadarOnline.com reports that Prince Philip has become the focus of a renewed medical discussion following startling claims that he survived for eight years with deadly pancreatic cancer. Experts are questioning how such an extended survival period aligns with typical disease outcomes.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away at the age of 99 in 2021, is alleged to have been diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer several years before his death, according to royal historian Hugo Vickers.

Rare Eight-Year Cancer Survival Sparks Medical Skepticism

Hugo Vickers claims the Duke managed the disease for eight years.

This assertion in Vickers’ recent royal book has garnered significant attention, considering the generally bleak prognosis associated with pancreatic cancer. Medical experts point out that surviving beyond a year is rare in typical cases, sparking speculation that the cancer might have been a rarer, slower-growing variant.

An expert in pancreatic cancer outcomes commented, “An eight-year survival in what is termed inoperable pancreatic cancer is highly unusual. It raises questions about the tumor’s specific type and whether it behaved differently from common forms.”

Another specialist noted, “Such extended survival usually leads clinicians to consider if it was a less aggressive subtype, unlike the more common, rapidly progressing pancreatic cancers.”

Pancreatic cancer is considered one of the most challenging cancers to treat, often being diagnosed at advanced stages and spreading quickly. The predominant form, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, comprises most cases and has a five-year survival rate of only 5 to 10 percent.

Patients often succumb within months of diagnosis, despite otherwise good health.

A medical source explained, “The typical pancreatic cancer is highly aggressive and usually discovered at an advanced stage, resulting in persistently low survival rates despite treatment progress.

The pancreas’s deep location in the abdomen and vague early symptoms often lead to late diagnoses, which limits curative options.”

Experts suggest that rarer forms of pancreatic cancer might explain longer survival times. Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, which develop in hormone-producing cells and tend to grow more slowly, account for a small number of cases but have better outcomes, especially when identified early.

A source with cancer treatment experience stated, “Some pancreatic cancers behave quite differently. They grow slowly and can be managed for years, even when surgery is not an option in the conventional sense.”

While still serious, these rare tumors can lead to prolonged survival not typically expected with more common pancreatic cancers. There have been documented instances of extended survival in such cases, including among well-known individuals.

Prince Philip continued his royal responsibilities despite the supposed illness.

Experts warn that outcomes can vary significantly based on tumor type, stage, and overall health. Medical professionals also highlight the challenges of early detection, noting that symptoms like abdominal pain, jaundice, weight loss, and digestive changes often appear only after the disease has advanced.

New research is concentrating on earlier diagnosis through screening and novel treatments, though many are still in development.

A medical source stated, “A significant challenge is identifying the disease before it becomes advanced. By the time clear symptoms manifest, treatment options may be limited.

“While there is progress in detection and targeted therapies, pancreatic cancer remains one of the most challenging areas in oncology.”

The claims about Philip’s alleged diagnosis have not been independently verified, and no official medical details have been released. A palace source acknowledged that these claims have reignited conspiracy theories regarding Philip’s health before his death.
