Sophia Hutchins, a close friend and manager of Caitlyn Jenner, tragically passed away on Wednesday in Malibu, California at the young age of 29. The cause of her death was reported to be injuries sustained in an ATV accident, according to People magazine.
The accident occurred when Hutchins was riding an all-terrain vehicle in Malibu and collided with another moving vehicle, pushing her off the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hutchins and Jenner first crossed paths through a mutual hair stylist around the time Jenner publicly came out as a transgender woman. Hutchins, who had also transitioned during college, quickly became one of Jenner’s most trusted confidantes as she navigated her way back into the public eye.
Not only was Hutchins the executive director and CEO of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on transgender activism, but she also managed Jenner’s public engagements and business affairs. She even appeared on the E! reality series “I Am Cait,” which followed Jenner’s life post-transition. Sadly, the show was canceled in 2016.
In a 2018 interview with Variety, Hutchins emphasized that Jenner’s activism was driven by a genuine desire to help the transgender community, not for publicity. Despite their close relationship and frequent appearances together, both Hutchins and Jenner vehemently denied rumors of a romantic involvement.
Hutchins, who was born on April 1, 1996, in Bellevue, Washington, graduated from Pepperdine University in 2019 with a degree in economics and finance. Alongside her work with Jenner, she also founded the sunscreen company Lumasol.
The unexpected loss of Sophia Hutchins has deeply impacted those who knew her and worked alongside her. Her dedication to transgender activism and unwavering support for Caitlyn Jenner will not be forgotten. May she rest in peace.
