Amazon Delivery Driver Accused of Stealing Cat in California
A shocking incident unfolded in Lakewood, California, when a homeowner, Diane Huff-Medina, claimed that an Amazon driver stole her beloved cat, Piper, after making a delivery to her residence. The entire ordeal was captured on camera, revealing the alleged porch pirate wearing an Amazon vest dropping off a package before callously snatching the cat by the scruff of its neck.
Huff-Medina expressed her disbelief at the situation, stating, “I had to rewatch it a couple of times because it is hard to see, itâs dark, and he doesnât carry her very nicely. I see her little tail and I was like, âOh my God.â I couldnât believe what I was seeing.” Despite Amazon identifying the employee responsible, they have been unable to reach him. Additionally, the homeowner reached out to the Lakewood Sheriffâs Department, only to be informed that it could be weeks before her case can be addressed.
Instances of theft involving Amazon delivery drivers have been reported in the past, with a similar incident occurring in Florida earlier this year where a driver stole a package just 30 seconds after dropping it off at a residence. In response to such crimes, the “Porch Pirates Act” was recently introduced in Congress to impose stricter penalties on individuals who steal packages delivered by both the US Postal Service and private companies, including increased jail time.
As the investigation into the alleged cat-napping continues, the community awaits justice for Piper and hopes for a swift resolution to this distressing situation. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
