In a shocking turn of events, California state lawmaker Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil has made explosive allegations against her former chief of staff, Chad Condit. The allegations, outlined in a counter complaint filed in Sacramento Superior Court, claim that Condit threatened Alvarado-Gil by insinuating his involvement in the disappearance of Chandra Levy, a Washington intern in 2001.

Alvarado-Gil, a Central Valley Republican, accuses Condit of stealing $50,000 from her campaign and making ominous statements about knowing “how to make people disappear.” She alleges that Condit claimed responsibility for the unsolved disappearance and murder of Chandra Levy, who had an affair with Condit’s father, former Rep. Gary Condit, sparking a national media frenzy in the early 2000s.

The Condit family is a prominent political dynasty in the Central Valley, with Gary Condit facing intense scrutiny during the investigation into Levy’s disappearance. While Gary Condit was never named a suspect, the case remained unsolved until another individual was convicted of Levy’s death. However, prosecutors dropped the case in 2016 due to new evidence, leaving the mystery unresolved.

These shocking allegations have sent shockwaves through the state Capitol and could potentially impact Alvarado-Gil’s reelection campaign in 2026. Earlier this year, the senator made headlines when she switched parties, leaving the Democratic Party.

In response to Condit’s earlier complaint, accusing Alvarado-Gil of sexual misconduct, her attorney dismissed the claims as outlandish and unsubstantiated. The counter complaint portrays Condit as a problematic employee who regularly abused alcohol and prescription medications. Alvarado-Gil alleges that Condit’s injuries were sustained during a vacation to Disneyland, not as a result of any incident involving her.
