A recent civil lawsuit has sent shockwaves through the political landscape in California. State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil is facing serious allegations from her former chief of staff, Chad Condit, who has accused her of sexual harassment and retaliation. The lawsuit, filed on September 5, includes claims of sexual favors being demanded by Alvarado-Gil, resulting in Condit suffering a back injury.
Alvarado-Gil, who recently switched her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, represents parts of Eastern California and the Central Valley. Condit, who first worked with the senator during her 2022 campaign and later became her chief of staff, alleges that he was subjected to a toxic work environment characterized by unwelcome advances and sexual behaviors.
According to Condit’s filing, he was pressured by Alvarado-Gil to perform oral sex on her during work-related trips. Despite being married, Condit claims he complied with these demands out of fear of losing his job. The final alleged incident resulted in Condit sustaining a back injury, with three herniated discs and a collapsed hip.
Following the injury, Condit claims he began pushing back against Alvarado-Gil’s advances, citing his physical condition as a reason. However, he alleges that the senator retaliated by threatening his job and issuing a disciplinary letter with baseless accusations.
In response to the lawsuit, Alvarado-Gil’s attorney has dismissed the claims as fabricated and financially motivated. The California State Senate, also named in the lawsuit, has stated that they are taking the matter seriously but cannot comment on pending litigation.
This scandal has cast a shadow over Alvarado-Gil’s political career, raising questions about workplace conduct and power dynamics within the state government. As the legal proceedings unfold, the outcome of this lawsuit will have far-reaching implications for both the senator and the California State Senate.
