In 2025, silver experienced a remarkable surge of 144%, driven by a combination of factors. Investors flocked to precious metals as a hedge against increasing political and economic uncertainty, while concerns about a potential supply shortage arose following China’s announcement to restrict its exports of silver starting in 2026. This move by China added fuel to the rally in silver prices, which peaked at around $120 per ounce before declining to $77.

Despite its similarities to gold in terms of physical and chemical properties, silver is more readily available and affordable. While some investors may see potential in silver reaching $200 per ounce, others believe that further downside is more likely, especially if China eases its export restrictions. The upcoming trade talks between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping could also impact silver prices.
