Can The OnePlus Pad 3 Replace Your Laptop? My Verdict

The debate about whether tablets can replace laptops has been ongoing for years. While tablets are great for entertainment and gaming, they often fall short in terms of productivity. However, the OnePlus Pad 3 aims to change that narrative with its premium hardware and focus on multitasking features.

Priced at £529 ($699.99 in the US), the OnePlus Pad 3 offers a compelling alternative to affordable laptops. To test its potential as a laptop replacement, I spent a full eight-hour working day using the Pad 3 and its keyboard cover. As a journalist, my tasks included managing multiple Google Chrome tabs, working in Microsoft Word, and communicating on Slack. Here are the key takeaways from my experience.

### A Work of Art

The OnePlus Pad 3 features a stunning 13.2-inch display with a high resolution of 3392 x 2400. The LCD panel offers vibrant colors and deep blacks, making it a joy to work on. With a maximum brightness of 517 nits, the screen is easily visible outdoors, making it versatile for different work environments. The 144Hz refresh rate adds a futuristic touch to the display, enhancing the overall user experience.

### So Much Faster Than My Laptop!

Powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the OnePlus Pad 3 delivers exceptional performance comparable to flagship Android devices. The device handles multitasking effortlessly, allowing for smooth navigation between apps and features. The speed and responsiveness of the Pad 3 make it a standout performer in the tablet market.

### It Just Keeps On Going

One of the standout features of the OnePlus Pad 3 is its impressive 12,140mAh battery. The device exceeded expectations by lasting well over a full working day with ample battery life remaining. With the potential to last up to two days on a single charge, the Pad 3 offers exceptional battery performance, a stark contrast to many laptops that struggle to last a few hours.

### Copy and Paste Woes

While the Smart Keyboard accessory enhances the productivity potential of the Pad 3, the trackpad proved to be a challenge. The trackpad’s lack of precision made tasks like copying and pasting cumbersome. Navigating the trackpad required additional effort, impacting overall usability. The need for extra accessories like a Bluetooth mouse detracts from the device’s portability.

### Where Are All the Good Apps?

The OnePlus Pad 3 runs on OxygenOS 15, offering dedicated multitasking features to simulate a laptop experience. While the software enhancements are commendable, the lack of optimized apps for the large screen remains a drawback. Some apps, like Microsoft Word, lack essential features found in their desktop versions, limiting the Pad 3’s productivity potential.

### Can the OnePlus Pad 3 Replace Your Laptop?

The OnePlus Pad 3 excels in several areas, including display quality, performance, and battery life. However, its software limitations and app compatibility issues hinder its potential as a full laptop replacement. While the Pad 3 may suffice for casual tasks, the superior Windows desktop experience remains unmatched for comprehensive productivity needs. Ultimately, the OnePlus Pad 3 falls short of replacing a laptop entirely.
