Apple TV+ is adding another iconic star to its roster, with Candice Bergen set to appear in the upcoming season of “Shrinking,” co-creator Bill Lawrence announced during a panel at the ATX TV Festival in Austin. Bergen will join series regular Harrison Ford and previously announced guest star Michael J. Fox in the third season of the show, which is currently in production.
Lawrence shared the news of Bergen’s casting while speaking about his experience working with Fox on his first sitcom, “Spin City.” He praised Fox as one of the greatest people he’s ever met and a mentor to him. Lawrence expressed his excitement at getting to work with Fox again, as well as with the legendary Harrison Ford and now Bergen.
“Shrinking,” co-created by Lawrence along with Brett Goldstein and Jason Segel, follows the story of Jimmy, a therapist who is dealing with the loss of his wife and starts making significant changes in the lives of his patients, friends, family, and himself. The show features a star-studded cast including Ford, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley.
In addition to Fox, Bergen, and Ford, the upcoming season of “Shrinking” will also feature new cast members Jeff Daniels, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez. Bergen has recently appeared in guest roles on shows like “And Just Like Us” and “The Conners.”
During the panel, Lawrence reminisced about his time working with Fox on “Spin City,” recalling a moment when Fox’s feedback on a joke helped him gain confidence as a young creator. Lawrence also discussed his close friendship with Zach Braff, who stars in “Scrubs” and is involved in Lawrence’s potential “Scrubs” revival at ABC. As for the Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso,” Lawrence deferred to creator and star Jason Sudeikis, noting that Sudeikis is the heart and soul of the show. Goldstein added a humorous note about the secrecy surrounding Apple’s projects, joking about snipers on the roof watching them.
