A violent attack in an Edgewater alley has led to the arrest of a 49-year-old man, Roosevelt McCree, who has been charged in connection with the incident. The attack left a 36-year-old man critically injured and hospitalized. The incident took place on Thursday, June 19, around 10 p.m. in the 5800 block of North Kenmore Ave.
According to reports, a 911 caller heard screams and a threat of “I’m going to kill you,” followed by the sound of a motorcycle speeding away. A passerby discovered the victim in the alley, initially mistaking the injuries for a gunshot wound, and immediately called for medical assistance. The victim was found to have been severely beaten in the head with a blunt object and was rushed to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition. As of early Friday, the victim remained unidentified.
Roosevelt McCree, who resides on the 600 block of West Elm St., was apprehended by the Chicago Police Department on Saturday evening in Edgewater. He is set to appear for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon, where more details about the allegations are anticipated to be revealed. McCree is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
