Christie Brinkley Reflects on 1994 Helicopter Crash in New Memoir
Supermodel Christie Brinkley has released a new memoir where she opens up about a harrowing experience she went through in 1994 – a helicopter crash that almost took her life.
The accident occurred while Brinkley and five others were heli-skiing in Telluride, Colorado. Brinkley described the incident as “sudden and traumatic, coming out of nowhere.”
According to the National Lampoon’s Vacation star, the helicopter was on its third run of the day when it unexpectedly plummeted from the sky, freefalling from a height of three hundred feet with no autorotation.
Brinkley was accompanied by her eldest daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, at the time of the crash. She recalled how in that moment of crisis, her focus shifted to love. “Suddenly, it became crystal clear that the only thing that really mattered in life and at death was the same: love. Love. I focused on Alexa Ray, holding her pure in my thoughts and hoping to project all my heart and soul to her so she would feel it at the very moment of impact,” she shared.
The impact of the crash was so intense that it tore the cabin of the helicopter in two. Miraculously, everyone in Brinkley’s group survived the ordeal.
Brinkley’s memoir offers a poignant reflection on the power of love and the fragility of life. It serves as a reminder of the importance of cherishing our loved ones and holding onto what truly matters in times of adversity.
