Australian designer Christopher Esber drew inspiration from David Cronenberg’s film Crash for his fall collection, resulting in a fashion line that merges automotive aesthetics with sartorial expression. Esber’s collection features upholstered materials, curved metal, padded surfaces, buckles, harnesses, and more, all aimed at creating a subtle yet powerful connection between skin and structure.

In a recent Zoom interview, Esber explained that his exploration of technology and the body, particularly the protective and enveloping nature of car interiors, led to a range of textures and finishes reminiscent of the ’70s era. The collection showcases innovative designs such as diamond perforated leather skirts, retro-plaid lined bomber jackets, and sculptural blazers with a modern twist.

Esber’s attention to detail is evident in his use of spirals and springs as motifs, symbolizing both mechanical engineering and natural elements. These elements are beautifully incorporated in black lace dresses and white jersey garments, adding a unique touch to each piece.

The designer’s preference for a black color palette allows him to focus on fabric manipulation and texture, resulting in luxurious pieces like fur-like cashmere knitwear, chevron faux fur coats, and feather-like effects created from shredded silk georgette. Traditional tassels are reimagined in modern evening wear, while racing stripes add a dynamic element to caftans and bags.

Overall, Christopher Esber’s fall collection showcases a harmonious blend of automotive inspiration and high fashion, offering a fresh perspective on texture, structure, and design. With his innovative approach and attention to detail, Esber is poised to make a significant impact in the world of fashion.
