Google has recently announced that it is expanding Gemini integration for Chrome to new regions, including India, Canada, and New Zealand. This new rollout will allow users to access Gemini in Chrome through a sidebar on desktop, giving them the ability to interact with Google’s AI chatbot to ask questions about the content on their screen, access information from Gmail, Keep, Drive, and YouTube, and compare tab contents.

In addition to expanding to new regions, Google has also introduced support for a variety of languages including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, in addition to English and Chrome’s other supported languages.

Gemini was first introduced in Chrome in the U.S. last September through a floating window, and earlier this year, Google introduced sidebar-based Gemini tools.

Users who have access to this feature will see an “Ask Gemini” icon on the tab bar, which they can activate for any tab to ask questions, summarize content, or create quizzes to better understand a topic. Gemini can also work across tabs, allowing users to mention multiple tabs to get answers, which is useful for comparing items or tickets.

Gemini can connect with various tools and Google apps to provide more personalized answers. It can connect to Gmail, Maps, Calendar, YouTube, and other Google apps for contextual answers. For example, users can compose an email using Gemini in the sidebar on Chrome and send it without leaving the window. They can also ask Gemini to summarize a YouTube video and list the main points with timestamp markers. The assistant can also schedule meetings or provide a summary of the user’s day.

Users can also utilize Google’s Nano Banana 2 generative AI tool directly in Gemini for Chrome to transform images. For instance, users can upload a photo of their room while shopping for furniture and ask the assistant to transform the image to see how a particular item would look in the room.

Google has also mentioned that Gemini support will be available in Chrome for iOS in India. When available, users will see the option in the address bar through a page tools icon.

In January, Google launched increased agentic capabilities for U.S.-based AI Pro and AI Ultra users, allowing the AI to take over the browser and complete tasks on their behalf. However, this function is not included in the latest expansion for users in India, New Zealand, and Canada.

Overall, the expansion of Gemini integration for Chrome to new regions and the introduction of new features and language support will provide users with a more personalized and efficient browsing experience, allowing them to interact with Google’s AI chatbot seamlessly within the Chrome browser.
