Speaking from his studio in Sydney, the designer explained, “This collection is really about fantasy meets function. I kept imagining escaping to desert horizons, sunbaked highways, and incorporating textiles and colors that evoke that landscape.”

Thelma & Louise, the iconic feminist film from 1991, served as a source of inspiration for Esber. While the idea of making a run for it may have crossed his mind, the designer clarified, “I connected with the spirit of changing things up and forging your own path.” Embracing elements that may no longer be considered trendy, Esber incorporated aged stripes and lace details onto tops and dresses, striking a balance between retro and contemporary aesthetics.

The collection features pieces that offer versatility and wearability, such as a sporty coffee-colored bomber jacket, a billowy trench with a patterned green lining, and tailored jeans with suede accents. Esber skillfully crafted ensembles that can be worn together as a complete look or separately, like an asymmetrical chocolate top paired with a grape-colored skirt.

Known for his innovative use of materials, Esber combined suede or jersey with lace, created exotic prints inspired by python effects, and incorporated silver coils into dresses and bags. Details like a necktie transformed into a halter top added a unique touch to the collection. A standout piece included a georgette dress with shredded snakeskin detailing, strategically revealing skin in a tasteful manner.

While not every experiment was a success, Esber delivered a range of sexy, sinuous, and commercially appealing pieces that are sure to resonate with his clientele. Whether they are embarking on a real adventure or simply channeling a spirit of wanderlust, Esber’s resort collection offers a fresh take on classics with a whimsical twist.
