Christopher Nolan Elected President of Directors Guild of America
Christopher Nolan, the acclaimed filmmaker known for his groundbreaking work in movies like “Inception” and “The Dark Knight,” has been elected as the new President of the Directors Guild of America. Taking over from Lesli Linka Glatter, Nolan is set to lead the union through upcoming negotiations with major studios.
Nolan expressed his gratitude for being elected as President, stating, “To be elected President of the Directors Guild of America is one of the greatest honors of my career. Our industry is experiencing tremendous change, and I thank the Guild’s membership for entrusting me with this responsibility.”
As a member of the DGA’s national board of directors, Nolan has been actively involved in the union’s efforts to advocate for creative and economic protections for its members. Under Glatter’s leadership, the DGA focused on set safety issues in recent years, lobbying for safety measures on production sets supported by the California film and TV tax incentive.
In upcoming negotiations, the DGA aims to expand foreign streaming residuals and continue to protect the interests of its members. Known for his versatility and box office success, Nolan’s election as President comes at a pivotal moment in his career, following his Oscar-winning film “Oppenheimer.”
Looking ahead, Nolan’s next project, “The Odyssey,” is set for release in July and is expected to continue his legacy of delivering impactful and successful films. The election results also saw Laura Belsey re-elected as National Vice President and Paris Barclay as Secretary-Treasurer, among other key positions filled.
