Cinnaholic, a US-based cinnamon roll franchise, has recently made the decision to re-deploy Square’s commerce tools across its 85 outlets after briefly switching to a competing system. This move comes after the plant-based bakery chain spent the past year testing an alternative system following 12 years of running its business on Square, Block’s inaugural product.

Nick Molnar, Block’s sales and marketing head, expressed his excitement about Cinnaholic’s return to Square, stating, “Cinnaholic’s return to Square shows that we’re the right platform to support fast-growing quick service franchises as they expand.” As part of the redeployment, Cinnaholic has implemented Square’s end-to-end tools, including Square for Franchises, to manage its multi-location operations from a central platform.

Square for Franchises provides “HQ-level visibility” while also supporting individual stores with faster checkout and real-time performance data. In terms of store locations, Cinnaholic has adopted Square Register and Square Stand as its payment and point-of-sale hardware. Additionally, the company will utilize Square Loyalty for its rewards initiatives and Square Marketing for automated customer communications.

Karen Bustios, Cinnaholic’s operations vice-president, explained the decision to return to Square, stating, “We grew Cinnaholic on Square, and though we took a break and tried another provider, we realized Square was the right tech solution to continue scaling our business. And Square’s platform delivers the reliability, support, and franchise capabilities we need to scale confidently.”

Established in 2010 in Berkeley, California, Cinnaholic has grown from a single shop to a franchise network across North America. The company prides itself on offering “100% plant-based” cinnamon rolls that are free from dairy, lactose, eggs, and cholesterol. With 85 current locations, Cinnaholic plans to open ten additional stores in 2026, with another 20 sites reported to be under development.

This recent decision by Cinnaholic to re-deploy Square’s commerce tools aligns with other businesses in the industry, such as Vietnamese-American drinks chain 7 Leaves café, which also chose to deploy Square’s commerce tools across its 44 locations in the US earlier this year. The move signals a trend towards utilizing Square’s comprehensive platform for streamlined operations and growth within the fast-paced food service industry.
