Cisco executives Jeetu Patel and DJ Sampath recently discussed the evolving landscape of product and model companies in a conversation with VentureBeat. They made a compelling case that in the near future, every successful product company will need to transition into becoming a model company to stay competitive.

The duo highlighted the diminishing line between product and model companies and emphasized the importance of leveraging AI to tap into the 55% of enterprise data growth that current AI models overlook. They stressed that companies that fail to adapt to this shift will struggle to thrive in the coming decade.

According to Patel, the future will see a convergence of product and model companies, where the success of a product will be heavily reliant on the underlying model driving it. This interconnected relationship between product and model will require companies to continuously enhance their models to improve product experiences rather than relying on superficial UI enhancements.

Sampath added that as technology moves towards agent-driven interactions, the effectiveness of these models in responding to changes will be crucial for companies to maintain a competitive edge.

The discussion also delved into the untapped potential of machine data, which currently accounts for 55% of data growth but is largely ignored by existing AI models. Patel explained that while current models are proficient in handling publicly available human-generated data, the real value lies in harnessing proprietary machine data locked within enterprises. By effectively training AI models on machine data, companies can unlock the full potential of AI and gain a significant competitive advantage.

Cisco’s commitment to open-source initiatives was also highlighted during the conversation. Sampath mentioned the launch of Foundation-Sec-8B, an open-source security model, as part of their efforts to strengthen cybersecurity defenses. By making these models available to a wider audience, Cisco aims to empower more defenders and enhance the security landscape.

The executives also touched upon Cisco’s hardware capabilities, emphasizing the importance of integrating hardware, software, and AI to drive innovation. They highlighted how correlating machine data with time series models can enable predictive maintenance and enhance infrastructure stability, particularly in industries like manufacturing.

Looking ahead, Cisco plans to energize its global partners to capitalize on the revenue opportunities presented by AI. The upcoming Partner Summit in San Diego is expected to feature significant announcements aimed at activating partners and driving the company’s AI vision forward.

In conclusion, Cisco’s strategic focus on AI and model-driven innovation underscores the company’s commitment to staying ahead of the curve in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. By embracing AI and open-source initiatives, Cisco aims to empower customers and partners to thrive in the digital age.
