Young’s Defamation Lawsuit Against CNN Could Lead to $1 Billion in Damages
Young’s lawyers have stated that the damages in their case could potentially reach $1 billion if the jury agrees that “CNN published defamatory statements that harmed Mr. Young, ruined his reputation, and destroyed his business”. This significant amount reflects the severity of the impact that Young alleges CNN’s report had on his life and livelihood.
Lead counsel for Young, Vel Freedman, expressed Young’s eagerness to proceed to trial in January following unsuccessful settlement talks earlier this month. Freedman stated, “Mr. Young is looking forward to presenting his case to a jury of his peers and seeking justice for the harm that has been done to him.”
CNN, on the other hand, has maintained its position and defended its report, asserting that there was no intention to cause harm through their coverage. The network continues to stand by the controversial statements made in their report despite the impending legal proceedings.
The civil jury trial is set to commence on January 6, 2025, where both parties will have the opportunity to present their arguments and evidence before a jury. The outcome of the trial will determine whether Young will be awarded damages for the harm he claims to have suffered as a result of CNN’s report.
