The Timeless Elegance of Kate Middleton’s Sentimental Jewelry
Ever since becoming a part of the royal family, Kate Middleton—now known as Catherine, Princess of Wales—has consistently adorned herself with heirloom jewelry. During the recent Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Kate once again chose sentimental jewelry. This time, she wore a stunning pair of Cartier earrings that once belonged to the late Queen.
These earrings, known as the Greville chandelier earrings, were a wedding gift to Princess Elizabeth from her parents in 1947. Originally commissioned by Dame Margaret Helen Greville in 1918, the earrings underwent two remakes over the years, featuring a variety of diamond cuts such as half-moon, trapeze, baguette, and emerald.
Queen Elizabeth II was frequently seen wearing the chandelier earrings throughout her reign, including at her first Royal Variety Performance as monarch in 1952. It was a poignant choice for Kate Middleton at the event last week, as she paid tribute to the late Queen through these timeless pieces. Kate has previously worn these cherished earrings at special occasions, including the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Princess Rajwa Al Saif in Amman, Jordan in 2023, and at the Diplomatic Corps reception the same year.
