Michael Smerconish, a conservative commentator for CNN, admitted during a recent discussion with journalist Mark Halperin that he was wrong to dismiss the possibility of illegal immigrants voting. The conversation centered around recent findings that thousands of illegal immigrants were registered to vote in New Jersey.

This revelation coincidentally emerged just days after Trump addressed the nation about election integrity, claiming similar issues were occurring in multiple states.

FOX News provides further details:

On Wednesday, during “The Michael Smerconish Program,” CNN and SiriusXM host Michael Smerconish acknowledged that he could no longer assert that noncitizen voting never happened after New Jersey revealed a software error that mistakenly registered approximately 6,600 noncitizens, with fewer than 400 of them casting ballots.

“I can’t say that any longer,” Smerconish stated. “I don’t know how often it does happen, but I can’t say any longer, ‘This never happens.’”

Smerconish previously concluded the opposite after reviewing a January New York Times analysis titled “Initial Review Finds No Widespread Illegal Voting by Migrants, Puncturing a Trump Claim.” The analysis found no evidence of widespread fraud but noted that noncitizens sometimes appeared on voter rolls.

Political analyst Mark Halperin concurred that the revelation weakened categorical claims denying noncitizen voting, while emphasizing the need for more information to determine its extent.

“Based on what we now know, the thing that Democrats said doesn’t happen happened,” Halperin remarked. “And it’s not right to take the word of the Democratic governor of New Jersey about what actually happened.”

Many in the media may continue to deny that this is an issue. However, it is crucial to initiate investigations in other states that have been linked to similar fraudulent activities.
