Alabama A&M football player Medrick Burnett Jr. tragically passed away following a head injury sustained during a college football game in October.
As reported by ESPN on Friday, the Jefferson County coroner’s office confirmed the 20-year-old athlete’s death on Wednesday evening, just hours after his team mistakenly announced and later retracted the news.
Alabama A&M’s athletic department issued an apology for the error, attributing it to receiving incorrect information from a family member the previous evening.
Despite the initial misinformation, Burnett’s mother, Denise Burnett, informed WAFF-TV that her son was still alive but hospitalized.
Following the incident on October 26th, Burnett remained in critical condition after a collision during the game.
His family’s statement on a GoFundMe page expressed hope and faith during this challenging time, asking for prayers for his recovery.
