The college football season is well underway, and the landscape is already shifting dramatically. Several teams projected to make the College Football Playoff at the beginning of the season have fallen out of contention, while others have risen to the challenge. Let’s take a closer look at some of the teams that are trending up and down as we approach the midway point of the season.

Stock Up:

Penn State:
Penn State has emerged as a serious contender for the College Football Playoff, with their odds increasing significantly over the past few weeks. The Nittany Lions’ offense has been a force to be reckoned with, ranking among the top in several key metrics. Led by a potent offense and a solid defense, Penn State is poised to make a deep run this season. Their favorable schedule and strong performances bode well for their chances of reaching the Playoff.

Boise State:
Despite an early loss to Oregon, Boise State’s Playoff odds have risen thanks to strong performances and key victories. The Broncos boast one of the best running backs in college football in Ashton Jeanty, who has been a scoring sensation on the field. With a win against Washington State on the horizon, Boise State is making a strong case for a Playoff berth.

Stock Down:

Michigan:
Michigan may have picked up a crucial win against USC, but their offensive struggles are cause for concern. With minimal passing yards and a reliance on big runs, the Wolverines’ offense may not be sustainable against tougher opponents. While their defense remains solid, Michigan faces a tough schedule ahead, including matchups against Oregon and Ohio State. Their Playoff chances remain slim, with doubts lingering about their ability to compete at the highest level.

LSU:
LSU has struggled on both sides of the ball this season, with their defense failing to live up to expectations. Despite a strong offense led by Garrett Nussmeier, LSU’s defensive woes have hindered their chances of making a Playoff run. With tough matchups against top teams in the SEC looming, LSU will need to make significant improvements to stay in contention.

As we head into the heart of the college football season, the race for the College Football Playoff is heating up. Teams like Penn State and Boise State are making strong cases for inclusion, while Michigan and LSU face uphill battles to stay in the hunt. With plenty of football still to be played, anything can happen as teams jockey for position in the Playoff race.
