Kimberly Sullivan, the Connecticut “House of Horrors” mom accused of imprisoning her stepson in deplorable conditions for over two decades, made a rare appearance in court on the anniversary of her arrest. The 57-year-old woman hid her face with a hood and sunglasses as she hurried into a Waterbury courthouse for a brief hearing, and then quickly left minutes later.

Sporting her signature flamboyant style with purple hair and a matching suit, Sullivan refused to answer any questions from the media about the shocking allegations against her. She is accused of keeping her stepson, now 33 years old, locked in a filthy room in their Waterbury home since he was around 10 years old, only allowing him out for a few hours each day to perform chores.

The stepson, known only as “S” in public, weighed a mere 68 pounds when he was discovered in February 2025 after setting fire to his room in an attempt to escape. He shared harrowing tales of being taken out of school as a child and confined to an upstairs storage room that became his prison for two decades.

Sullivan was arrested shortly after the discovery but was released on $300,000 bail with orders not to contact her stepson. She appeared in court for just over two minutes on Thursday for a procedural hearing regarding obtaining medical records for the upcoming trial.

In a significant legal victory, Sullivan’s attorney successfully argued for access to the stepson’s medical records, which are typically confidential. The defense team aims to review the evidence presented by the prosecution and prepare for trial.

Despite maintaining her innocence, Sullivan’s attorney declined to address why the stepson was severely underweight when rescued. The scorched remains of the Waterbury home where the alleged captivity took place serve as a grim reminder of the ordeal.

While Sullivan has been in hiding since her arrest, her attorney described her as “public enemy number one” due to the extensive media coverage of the case. The stepson, now in a secure location, is said to be recovering well after a hospital stay.

Sullivan is scheduled to appear in court again on April 30, facing charges of kidnapping, assault, unlawful restraint, and cruelty to persons. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges as the legal proceedings continue. The details of her whereabouts remain undisclosed, leaving many questions unanswered in this disturbing case.
