Convicted Killer Arrested Again for Gun Possession in New York City
A convicted killer with a history of criminal offenses was apprehended by NYPD officers this week for drinking alcohol in his car and possessing a loaded gun, the police reported on Friday.
Anthony Rivera, 46, a resident of the Bronx, was found consuming alcohol inside his red 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander parked at the intersection of West 128th Street and Eighth Avenue in Harlem around 9:10 p.m. on Thursday. The officers approached Rivera’s vehicle and conducted a search, uncovering a loaded SCCY CPX-2 pistol, brass knuckles, and a quantity of drugs believed to be crack cocaine.
Rivera, who was previously incarcerated for manslaughter and released in 2018, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Rivera has a criminal record that includes seven prior arrests, with the most serious charge related to the fatal stabbing of David Fuentes in 2007. Fuentes, a school maintenance worker, was found dead in a University Heights home following a dispute.
Rivera pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with Fuentes’ death and served 11 years in prison. He was released on community supervision in 2016, which expired in 2021.
Prior to the manslaughter conviction, Rivera had been incarcerated for drug-related offenses and an armed robbery charge. His history of criminal activity spans from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s.
At the time of his most recent arrest, Rivera’s arraignment was pending, and he was awaiting further legal proceedings.
