13-Year-Old Armed Carjacker Arrested in South Chicago

Chicago police officers apprehended a 13-year-old armed carjacker on Sunday evening mere seconds after he stole a vehicle from a 58-year-old man in the 2600 block of East 84th Street around 5:40 p.m.

The incident unfolded when the teenager brandished a firearm and made off with the victim’s Kia. Fortunately, a witness quickly alerted a passing CPD squad car to the crime, leading to a swift response.

Law enforcement officers managed to track down the young perpetrator and take him into custody in record time. In fact, reports indicate that the arrest occurred before emergency dispatchers even received the initial 911 call reporting the carjacking.

Following the arrest, the Chicago Police Department announced that the 13-year-old has been formally charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking involving a firearm.
