Carrie Underwood to Perform at Donald Trump’s Inauguration

Country music star Carrie Underwood has been tapped to perform at Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration. Underwood, who first gained fame as a contestant on American Idol, will be singing “America the Beautiful” just moments before Trump takes the Oath of Office. She will be accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club, according to the official program.

In a statement obtained by USA Today, Underwood expressed her excitement and honor at being asked to participate in the historic event. She stated, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

The ceremony will also feature performances by other musical acts, including operatic tenor Christopher D. Macchio, who will be delivering the National Anthem and other musical pieces. Macchio, who has previously performed at Trump campaign rallies, will bring his powerful voice to the event.

Additionally, the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club will present “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” while the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Combine Choirs will offer a selection of diverse musical arrangements. The ceremony is expected to be a joyous occasion for many Americans, although some Democrats and disaffected Republicans will have to attend or participate in accordance with political tradition.

Among the attendees will be outgoing President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, along with their respective spouses. However, Axios reported last month that some Democrats may boycott the ceremony as an initial act of resistance against the incoming president. Their reasons range from a distaste for Trump to fears for their safety, with the memories of the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack still fresh in their minds.

As the inauguration day approaches, the mix of musical performances and political traditions promises to make for a memorable event. Carrie Underwood’s participation will undoubtedly bring a touch of star power to the proceedings, as Americans come together to witness the peaceful transfer of power.
