A multi-vehicle crash this afternoon has resulted in the closure of the Kawarau Gorge (State Highway 6) between Gibbston and Cromwell. The incident was reported as a “serious incident” by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi around 12.30pm. Emergency services are currently on the scene near Roaring Meg.
Initially, delays were expected, but as of 1.30pm, NZTA confirmed that the highway is now fully blocked and closed. Motorists are advised to steer clear of the area and find alternative routes.
