Multiple individuals sustained injuries in a water incident involving quad bikes at the Rakaia River mouth. A police spokesperson reported that they were notified of the situation shortly after 1pm today.
The incident took place when quad bikes got stuck while trying to cross the south side of the Rakaia River mouth. The mishap occurred near Dorie, southeast of Rakaia township.
A representative from Hato Hone St John mentioned that one person was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital in critical condition. The emergency response included two ambulances, an operations manager, two rapid response vehicles, and a helicopter.
As of 3pm, law enforcement and emergency services were still present at the scene.
