Cursor has reportedly surpassed $2B in annualized revenue

The AI coding assistant Cursor has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing $2 billion in annualized revenue, as reported by Bloomberg. This metric is calculated by multiplying the latest month’s revenue by 12, showcasing the impressive growth of this four-year-old startup. In fact, Cursor’s revenue run rate has doubled over the past three months, indicating a strong upward trajectory.

This announcement comes at a strategic time, countering recent skepticism surrounding Cursor’s momentum. Speculation arose last week when tweets questioning the company’s growth went viral, particularly highlighting high-profile defections of individual developers to competing tools like Anthropic’s Claude Code.

Founded in 2022, Cursor initially targeted individual developers as its main customer base. However, in the past year, the company has shifted its focus towards securing large corporate clients, which now contribute to approximately 60% of its revenue. While some individual developers and smaller startups have switched to Claude Code due to competitive pricing, Cursor has managed to retain higher-spending corporate customers who value the platform’s offerings.

In addition to Claude Code, Cursor faces competition from other players in the AI-assisted software development market, such as OpenAI’s Codex, Replit, Cognition, and Lovable. Despite this competitive landscape, Cursor remains a key player in the industry, with a last valuation of $29.3 billion following a successful funding round in November.

As of now, Cursor has not provided a comment in response to inquiries. For those interested in learning more about the tech industry, Techcrunch is hosting an event in San Francisco, CA from October 13-15, 2026.
