Mumbai Indians (MI) star Suryakumar Yadav had a touching and motivating message for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) debutant Ayush Mhatre after their clash in IPL 2025. The two teams faced off in Match 38 on Sunday, April 20, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
In the match, CSK batted first and posted a competitive total of 176/5 in their 20 overs. Making his debut at just 17 years old, Ayush Mhatre made an immediate impact with a quickfire 32 off 15 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. His performance, along with solid half-centuries from Shivam Dube (50) and Ravindra Jadeja (53*), helped CSK set a challenging target.
In response, MI put on a dominant batting display. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav showcased their class with an unbeaten 114-run partnership in just 54 balls. Rohit’s 76 not out from 45 balls earned him the Player of the Match award, while Suryakumar impressed with an unbeaten 68 off 30 balls.
Their explosive batting guided MI to a convincing nine-wicket victory, marking their third consecutive win in the tournament.
After the match, Suryakumar took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message for Ayush Mhatre, his fellow Mumbai state team cricketer and CSK debutant. In his Instagram story, he wrote: “Cutest cub has arrived in the jungle with a fierce roar. Get ready for some adventure and fun.”
Meanwhile, Mhatre was brought into the CSK squad as a replacement for regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was sidelined due to an elbow fracture.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has been in fine form in IPL 2025, currently ranking fourth on the list of highest run-scorers. He has scored 333 runs from eight innings at an average of 55.50 and a strike rate of 162.43, including two half-centuries. Throughout his IPL career, Suryakumar has played 158 matches, accumulating 3,927 runs at an average of 33.27 and a strike rate of 146.63. He has registered 26 half-centuries and two centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 103.
