Sergio Aguiar and David Stancombe recently participated in the 2025 London Marathon to honor their daughters who tragically lost their lives in a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. The emotional journey saw Aguiar falling to the ground upon completing the race, while Stancombe gave a thumbs up in triumph. Aguiar proudly displayed a medal and wore a T-shirt featuring a photo of his late daughter Alice Dasilva Aguiar, with a GoFundMe link to raise funds for a playground at Churchtown Primary School in memory of Alice and another victim, Bebe King.
Stancombe sported a white T-shirt with “Elsie’s Dad” printed on it, paying tribute to his daughter Elsie Dot Stancombe. The shirt also highlighted the charity Elsie’s Story, founded to honor Elsie’s memory. The devastating incident occurred in July 2024 when Alice, Bebe, and Elsie were fatally stabbed at a Swift-themed dance and yoga class in Southport, England. Axel Rudakubana, then 17 years old, was arrested and charged with murder in connection to the tragedy.
Taylor Swift expressed her condolences on social media following the horrific event, emphasizing her shock and sympathies for the families affected. The pop star, who was not associated with the incident, had brought her “Eras Tour” to London in June and August 2024. In a heartfelt Instagram Story post, she lamented the loss of life and innocence, expressing complete disbelief at the traumatic incident that took place at a children’s dance class.
In January, Axel Rudakubana was sentenced to 52 years in prison for his role in the crime. Judge Julian Goose deemed it the most extreme and shocking crime, highlighting the severity of the situation. The judge explained that Rudakubana, being a minor at the time of the offense, could not receive a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
The British royal family also responded to the tragedy, with Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton visiting first responders and King Charles III meeting with survivors and their families. They collaborated with the Blue Light Card Foundation to establish a National Police and Wellbeing Service, offering support to those in need of psychological and physical rehabilitation after the incident.
The marathon run by Aguiar and Stancombe stands as a poignant tribute to their beloved daughters, honoring their memory and raising awareness for the tragic events that unfolded in 2024. Their resilience and determination to carry on in the face of unimaginable loss serve as a testament to the strength of the human spirit in times of adversity.
