The actress, known for her role as Dee Thomas on the popular ABC sitcom, Whatâs Happening!!, had also reprised her role in the sequel series Whatâs Happening Now!! from 1985 to 1988. Spencer chronicled her experiences as a child star in her memoir, Through the Fire ⊠Journal of a Child Star, published in 2010.
In 2014, Spencer was diagnosed with breast cancer, adding to the health challenges she had faced over the years. Despite her optimism and faith, she was shocked by the news, especially considering her history with spinal stenosis following a car accident in 1977. Spencer had been paralyzed briefly after undergoing surgery for her injuries.
