David Beckham to be Knighted in King’s Birthday Honors List
Former England captain, David Beckham, who was previously awarded an OBE back in 2003, is set to receive a knighthood as part of the King’s Birthday Honors list, in recognition of his contributions to soccer and British society.
Beckham has had a remarkable career, winning numerous accolades including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and one Champions League title with Manchester United. He also secured one Spanish league title and one French league title at Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain respectively. In addition to his sporting achievements, Beckham is a dedicated Unicef ambassador and played a crucial role in bringing the 2012 Olympics to London.
Both David and Victoria Beckham—who received an OBE for her services to the fashion industry in 2017 and will now become a Lady—have been frequent attendees at royal events. They have graced events such as a state banquet for the Emir of Qatar in December 2024, a dinner at Highgrove House to celebrate the UK’s relationship with Italy in February, as well as the weddings of the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2011 and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2018.
The King’s honors are a way to acknowledge individuals from various backgrounds for their merit, service, or bravery. These honors are announced twice a year, on New Year’s Day and the King’s birthday on June 14. Other notable figures set to be recognized include actor Gary Oldman, who will also receive a knighthood; television presenter Claudia Winkleman, who will be made an MBE; former tennis player Virginia Wade, who will be made an OBE; and actor Adjoa Andoh, who will be made an MBE.
