On December 29, 1890, the tragic Wounded Knee massacre occurred in South Dakota, where over 250 Lakota people lost their lives at the hands of U.S. troops.

Other Significant Events:

In 1170, Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was fatally attacked by knights loyal to King Henry II within Canterbury Cathedral.

On this day in 1940, Germany launched incendiary bombs on London during World War II, leading to what became known as “The Second Great Fire of London.”

In 1978, during the Gator Bowl, Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes infamously punched Clemson player Charlie Bauman, resulting in Hayes’ subsequent dismissal.
