Amazon Prime Day
Tomorrow marks Amazon’s second Prime Day of the year, a two-day event running from October 7 to 8. To take advantage of discounts on electric toothbrushes and tech, you’ll need an Amazon Prime membership. It’s also beneficial to check alternative retailers, such as Boots and Currys, who may also have discounts to offer.
It’s important to note that discount amounts often reference the RRP (recommended retail price), yet many times the toothbrush is sold for less, making the discount appear more substantial than it is. This article will provide insights on identifying genuine deals and appropriate pricing.
While the major deals will start in the morning, take a look at some early discounts we’ve found:
- Oral-B Pro 3 with travel case – £35 (£5 off)
- Oral-B iO5 – £95 (£20 off)
- Oral-B iO6 – £115 (£15 off)
Oral-B iO Series pricing: What you should pay
In the UK, understanding pricing can be a bit tricky, as iO brushes were initially introduced at a high price point but often see significant price drops. The commonly advertised ‘discount’ prices typically reflect the actual worth of the products. Expect frequent sales, so you shouldn’t have to wait long before making a purchase.
We will outline recommended pricing for each iO brush for UK customers in the sections following.
In the US, the prices of iO brushes tend to hold relatively steady post-launch, with discounts during sales being authentic.
Oral-B iO pros and cons
The iO series is notably recognized for its outstanding brushing performance and superior feature sets, though there are some drawbacks. Below are the strengths and weaknesses of the series.
Pros
- Regardless of which iO model you select, all deliver excellent brushing performance, utilizing brush heads that oscillate and vibrate during use. The iO2 is the sole exception, featuring a different motor that offers gentler cleaning reminiscent of traditional Oral-B brushes.
- A user-friendly light ring pressure sensor indicates brushing intensity: it glows red for excessive pressure and green when pressure is just right (again, with the exception of the iO2). Furthermore, this light ring can be customized on all smart models, allowing you to choose a color that suits your preferences.
- Every brush has a two-minute timer: all models provide a timer feature, with vibrations every 30 seconds to signal a move to the next area of your mouth. The screens on the iO6 and above models provide an on-screen countdown, while smart models display countdowns in the app. Non-screen versions ‘celebrate’ achieving the two-minute mark with a colorful light ring sequence. Most smart-enabled brushes also allow customization of brushing time in the app.Â
- A variety of brushing modes is available (this includes various modes depending on the model, with premium options offering the most).
- Brushing feedback and smart features (again, varying by model). All models with smart features offer some form of brushing feedback, while higher-end versions provide real-time coaching.
- Models iO7 through iO10 support 3-hour fast charging.
- iO brushes operate quite quietly, avoiding high-pitched noises or excessive mechanical sounds during use.
Cons
- No Oral-B brushes support USB charging. In the US, they utilize a standard two-pin plug, while in the UK, they use a shaving plug socket.
- Except for the iO2, other iO models typically have a battery life around two weeks. Please note that Oral-B’s estimate assumes 4 minutes of brushing daily; extended usage or brushing after meals may reduce battery longevity considerably. This limitation is a significant downside for an otherwise high-end product, since many electric brushes today boast a battery life of a month or longer.
- The iO brushes are not particularly user-friendly for sharing due to the reliance on smart features, resulting in brushing data being rendered meaningless for multiple users. Sharing could also reduce battery life significantly between uses.

$119.99
The iO6 features a similar monochrome display to the iO7 but lacks the fast charging capability. Charging may take up to 16 hours, so it’s beneficial to leave it on the stand.

- Guided cleaning mode along with smart features
- Light ring pressure sensor
Colour options and accessories: Available in several colors, including black onyx, grey opal, and pink sand. $89.99
The iO5 shares the foundational design of its pricier counterparts but lacks a digital display. Rather, it has a rubber panel with illuminated icons indicating brushing modes. Some functionalities are accessed through the app, which additionally provides a real-time coaching mode essential for improving your brushing technique, unavailable in the less expensive models.
Key features:
- iO brushing performance
- On-handle mode icons
- 5 brushing modes: daily clean, intense clean, whitening, sensitive, and super sensitive
- Real-time coaching mode and smart features
- Light ring pressure sensor
Colour options and accessories: The iO5 comes in pink or black. Included are a travel case and a charging stand, which differ from higher-end models—the travel case doesn’t match the finish of the premium ones, and it comes with a standard Oral-B charger instead of the magnetic variant.
Recommended price in the UK: The iO5 debuted at £280 but current prices should reflect a discount, ideally around £120. Evaluate if the iO6 (with a screen) or the iO7 (with screen and fast charging) present better value within your budget.
