Trump’s Tax Bill and a Curious Disconnect
The glaring disparity in accountability for Donald Trump, compared to his predecessors, has once again come to the forefront. This time, it was illuminated during his recent meeting with moderate House Republicans in the Oval Office, where he sought their backing for his proposed tax cuts, dubbed the BBB, intended primarily for the affluent.
However, a rather significant obstacle emerged.
According to NOTUS, Trump appears to be somewhat hazy on the specifics of the very legislation he is advocating:
During a Wednesday meeting with select moderates and members of the Main Street Caucus, Trump listened to their apprehensions and highlighted the perceived victories embedded in the legislation, as reported by two sources.
Yet, in a rather curious turn of events, Trump reportedly demonstrated a lack of understanding regarding the implications of his flagship legislative proposal. Sources familiar with the meeting indicated that Trump advised Republicans not to alter three key programs if they wish to maintain electoral success: Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.
“Yet, we are indeed modifying Medicaid in this bill,” one Republican member pointed out to Trump, according to the same sources.
It’s a peculiar scenario when a supposed master negotiator and closer seems oblivious to the content of the bill he is urging House Republicans to support, potentially jeopardizing their political futures.
