Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, D-Va., recently joined the trend of “aura farming” on TikTok by sharing a video of himself dancing solo in the congressional subway, captioned “omw to hold this administration accountable.”

In the video, Subramanyam can be seen in the House subway wearing sunglasses, striking poses, and waving his arms before focusing on the camera.

However, Subramanyam’s attempt at “aura farming” seems to have backfired, with some viewers criticizing it as tone-deaf, hypocritical, and cringeworthy.

Individuals on the left who are frustrated with what they perceive as inaction from Democrats during President Donald Trump’s administration criticized the Virginia congressman in the comments section.

Many commenters referenced Subramanyam’s voting history, including his recent controversial decision to vote against a House impeachment resolution against Trump.

In June 2025, Subramanyam voted to block a resolution to impeach President Trump, introduced by Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, which was ultimately stopped by a majority in the House.

Several comments on the video mocked its tone and delivery, with some questioning the congressman’s priorities and actions.

While some criticized Subramanyam’s TikTok video, others called for more substantial actions from elected officials and less performative gestures.

Subramanyam, known for his moderate views and immigrant background, won Virginia’s 10th District in 2024.

The “aura farming” trend, popular among younger generations, involves performing cool gestures while standing still, often set to a specific soundtrack.

Subramanyam’s office and TikTok were contacted for comment, but there has been no response yet.
