Representative Neal Dunn (R-FL) made headlines in January when he declared he would not pursue another term following the conclusion of his current one.
Dunn articulated his decision in a statement, reflecting on his tenure:
After extensive consideration and heartfelt discussions with my family, I have resolved not to seek re-election to the United States House of Representatives. My service, spanning five impactful terms representing Florida’s Second Congressional District, will come to a close.
As a physician, Army surgeon, and a veteran hailing from a family with a rich military tradition, I have endeavored to uphold my commitment to life, liberty, and conservative principles in Washington. It has been my utmost privilege to advocate for lower taxes, our military and veterans, the unborn, healthcare innovation, and policies that prioritize Americans over bureaucracy while addressing threats from global adversaries like Communist China and Russia.
Now, it is time to hand over the reins to a new generation of conservative leaders, return to my home in Panama City, and cherish more moments with my family and beloved grandchildren.
However, what Dunn did not publicly disclose—yet has circulated as a rumor—is that he is facing health issues that may prevent him from completing his term. Speculation suggests he may announce his resignation prior to the upcoming midterm elections.
These rumors appear to be grounded in reality.
